About the PI

Dr. Dimitrios Mastellos is a Research Director at the National Center for Scientific Research ‘Demokritos’ (NCSRD) in Athens, Greece. His research interests lie in the field of innate immunity, complement-driven inflammation and therapeutics. He applies both in vitro and in vivo approaches for interrogating the role of innate immune pathways in human pathophysiology. Dr. Mastellos is a Biologist and holds a Ph.D. in Immunology from the Medical School of the University of Patras on the role of complement-triggered pathways in liver regeneration. He pursued postdoctoral research with Prof. John Lambris at the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the University of Pennsylvania, on the role of complement-triggered pathways in diverse biological processes ranging from tissue regeneration and anaphylatoxin-triggered inflammation  to stem cell engraftment and early hematopoietic development. His research at NCSRD focuses on the integrative evaluation of novel complement-based biomarkers for disease prognosis, staging and therapy.
